Midsommar approaches – the shortest night of the year, the biggest festivity in Sweden. I have a few days off and we sail away from Lidingö heading north as planned. First day, we sail mainly within Stockholm’s Archipelago among Finland ferries. Only after passing Furusund we leave the main trail. We want to reach as far north as possible before the Midsommar weekend and find a nice spot for the holiday itself. So far we need to find a spot for the night. After the week in the civilized harbour – and a quite loud one, which was stressful for the Cats – we want to overnight in the wild. We choose a protected cove on Lidö island. The cove sports buoys which must be used instead of yacht anchors – this should protect sea bottom. We catch such a buoy from our stern and go to the shore with the bow.
We are not alone in this comfortable cove. Our neighbours are nice motorboaters. We moor however a couple of slots away from them, so that our cats have their peace. The next morning however, when we just managed to convince Kajjan to come back to the boat, a new boat parked at our side – with two dogs onboard. Kajjan turned around and went back to the wood. Thus we need to spend Midsommar on Lidö.
Only thereafter we managed to convince Kajjan to return to the vicinity of the boat and then we just picked him up and put him into the cabin, so that we could sail away. We followed this pattern later on, otherwise we would need to wait long till Kajjan climbs onboard by himself.
On my last day off we arrive in Grisslehamn. This is a well protected harbour with quite a good service. We left the boat for two weeks there and returned home with the Cats so that they have a break in sailing.
