Our next stay on the boat begins as a week of vacation. This is the last opportunity in this year to reach north.
We arrive at Grisslehamn by car. We leave the car on a parking and sail away with the Cats onboard. We plan as we go, sailing along the coast during days. We avoid night sailing as the Cats do not enjoy sailing and we want to allow them to relax in the nights. We also avoid sailing in strong winds.
We cross the Bay of Gävle and arrive to the Virgin Coast (Jungfrukusten). This is Norrland – the northern half of Sweden. It is visible by the lack of leave trees in the forests. People speak different here – much slower.
We arrive at the harbour Norrsundet. We spend the next week in that comfortable club harbour and I can work from the boat.
The next weekend we sail further. With an overnight stay at the island Storjungfrun (which gives the name to the area of the coast) we arrive at the club harbour Segelvik at the outskirts of Söderhamn. This harbour belongs to the sailing club of Söderhamn but which welcomes guests and provides excellent service to them. For me, it is another week of working from the boat.
We meet also sailors who return from the “Midsommar Regatta”. This is a race organized yearly between Wismar in Mecklenburg and the northest harbour in the Gulf of Bothnia, Tore. The winners of this regatta made this trip in 8 days, sailing non-stop. Now they return without stress and stop to visit beautiful spots.
